Free Guide - mapping the neurodivergent discovery journey
A guide to neurodivergent discovery and how therapy can provide support
The neurodivergent journey often unfolds in phases — it’s not linear, but it seems to have common themes that many people move through.
This FREE guide outlines four key phases I have come to notice professionally through my work with late-diagnosed neurodivergent adults. It also explores how I provide therapeutic support throughout this journey. A taste of what’s in the guide is outlined below:
Phase 1: Pre-Awareness — A stage often marked by self-doubt, burnout, and attempts to mask or "fix" oneself without understanding why; therapy can gently begin to unpick internalised ableism and validate struggle without rushing insight.
Phase 2: Disruption & Recognition — A triggering event (diagnosis, conversation, or content) shifts the narrative, leading to questioning and re-evaluation; therapy holds this liminal space, offering orientation, containment, and a compassionate lens.
Phase 3: Immersion & Reclaiming — Identity becomes vivid and central, often bringing pride, grief, and a strong desire for community; therapy supports critical thinking, emotional processing, and staying grounded amid intensity and new beliefs.
Phase 4: Integration — Neurodivergence becomes one part of a fuller, more flexible identity; therapy here focuses on long-term sustainability, future visioning, relational development, and sometimes preparing for an intentional ending to sessions.
